Kanepi upsets Schiavone at Gaz de France (AP)

Qualifier Kaia Kanepi upset second-seeded Francesca Schiavone 6-2, 7-5 Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Gaz de France. The 15th-ranked Schiavone broke first in both sets. But the 91st-ranked Kanepi rallied to beat the Italian, who finished runner-up last year. In Saturday's semifinals, Kanepi will play Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands, who beat third-seeded Ana Ivanovic 6-3, 6-4.
